MOBA Art Too Bad To Be Ignored
  MOBA : About MOBA

location + map

Come visit the "real" MOBA in the basement of the Dedham Community Theatre, conveniently located just outside the men's room. The nearby flushing helps maintain a uniform humidity.

This, MOBA's first and only permanent gallery, proudly opened in October 1995. It is the world's only museum dedicated to bad art. A small museum in the basement of an old building, MOBA is appropriately lit by one large, humming fluorescent light fixture.

Of about 400 pieces in the permanent collection, 20 to 40 are exhibited at a time. Each piece is accompanied by a descriptive narrative, adding to your enjoyment. Usually, there is no MOBA staff on premises but our good friends at the Dedham Community Theatre try to answer your questions. While you're there you may be able to catch a movie. See www.DedhamCommunityTheatre.com to find out what’s playing.

The Dedham Community Theatre also runs a little gift shop for us, right next to the Good 'n' Plenty, the candy bars, and the licorice. Very tasteful. The gift shop carries MOBA books, t-shirts, tote bags, and such.

directions by car
From Downtown Boston and Points South
Take Route 93 South (Southeast Expressway). In Braintree, the road splits so stay to the right (this is still Route 93 South). Through the magic of the Interstate system and the Mass Dept of Highways, Rt. 93 South eventually turns into Rt. 95 North. Continue on 95 North to Dedham. Take the main exit for Dedham (exit 15A), the one after the East Street Exit. At the fourth traffic light, turn left (gas station on left, sign for Dedham Square). Park in the lot on the right. Walk to the next corner and turn left for the Dedham Community Theatre and MOBA Gallery.

From Boston (For People Who Know Their Way Around the City)
Take Storrow Drive to Kenmore Square, to the Riverway, to the Jamaicaway. Follow signs for Dedham, sticking with Route 1 South. You will be on the system of parkways nearly all the way to the Dedham line. For miles, the road will be almost entirely residential. As you enter Dedham you will cross into a luminous strip of wondrous commercial development. About one mile later you will pass the Dedham Mall on the left and come to the Dedham Rotary (Dunkin' Donuts on right). Take the first right off the rotary to Washington Street. Go to the traffic light and turn left to High Street. Dedham Community Theatre is around corner on the right. For free parking go to next corner, turn right, parking is on left.

From Points West and North of Boston
Take Route 95 South (also known as Rt. 128 South) to Exit 17, Route 135 Needham. At the end of the ramp, turn right and follow road for 2 miles into Dedham Square. Dedham Community Theatre is on the right, just past the traffic light in center of town at Washington St. For free parking go to next intersection, turn right, and the lot is on your left.
